Volunteer Spotlight
Penn State Alumni Association – Upper Chesapeake Chapter
- Number of Cleanup Hours: 4
- Total Number of Volunteers: 11 PSU alumni/friends/family
- Total Debris Estimate: Cleared overgrown brush from roughly 400 ft of shoreline.
- How many years has the Alumni Association been cleaning up the Havre de Grace Lock House: 25 years
- Why did you choose to partner with the Lock House: The tradition was begun by PSU alumni Dale & Sally Woomert as a part of the Penn State Alumni Association (PSAA) Community Service Day as the focal project for the then Baltimore Chapter. The tradition continued throughout the years even as the local PSAA Chapter changed to the Northeastern Maryland (NEMAR) Chapter, followed by us, the Upper Chesapeake Chapter.
- Cleanup challenges: Clearing the brush from along the bank of the river is always the toughest part of the cleanup process.
- Anything else you’d like to share: Excited to support the Lock House by continuing this tradition for years to come! WE ARE... PENN STATE!
